Super Saturday at the Barrs !!   22/11/2015

Saturday last November 21st was a busy and productive day for both our Camogie and Minor sections. In the morning, the committee and players of the senior Camogie section hosted a coffee morning in aid of Marymount Hospice and in honour of Ger O'Connor, recently deceased mother of our All Star Gemma and club SF and SH star Glen. Family and friends of the O 'Connor clan prepared gorgeous cakes and savories and the large attendance brought a buzz to the club bar which was wonderful to see and was very much appreciated by Gemma, Glen and family. At the close of the coffee morning, in the presence of many of their colleagues from the All Ireland winning Senior Camogie team presentations were made by the club executive to Gemma, Maebh Cahalane, Paudie Murray, Sean Cremin and Marion McCarthy to honour our these club members and their key contributions to the outstanding victory in Croke Park last September.
On Saturday evening the Minor section held its victory dinner and medal presentations for our PMF county winning team, our fe16 P2 Hurling county champions and the double league and championship winning Central 3 football squad. In addition the Non -Exam league winning team were also feted. A crowd of in excess of 200 players, mentors, parents, friends and club members were treated to an excellent meal which was followed by the presentation of medals. The club player of the year was also presented to the most deserving Shane Cox, dual hurler and footballer. The various managers, Bill O'Connell, Fionan Murray and  Gary McCarthy individually reflected on their year's highlights with each team and the winning captains, Conor Dennehy, Shane Hurley, and Eoghan O'Sullivan  in turn presented awards to the selectors and coaches of the 3 teams. Chairman, Diarmuid Hurley hosted the evening in his own inimitable  and confident manner and our guest of honour Jim Forbes, Chairman of Rebel Og Central, responded on behalf of our Guests. Finally club president Pat Logheed paid due tribute to our players, mentors and parents in his closing remarks . A great day at the Barrs concluded late into the night with song, dance and chat. Pictures of both today's  events will be available shortly in the media gallery on the club website
