UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities Conference 2017-09-18 09:56:00

Cork will host the third UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities Conference next week. It will be held in the City Hall, from 18th — 20th September. The two previous conferences were held in Beijing 2013 and Mexico 2015, each involved over 600 delegates from countries worldwide.

This is a first for Ireland and for Europe

Cork is the only Irish City currently recognised by UNESCO for its excellence in the field of Learning, and was one of just twelve cities globally, and three in Europe, presented with inaugural UNESCO Learning City Awards. The other two European cities are Espoo (Finland) and Swansea.

Learning Neighbourhoods

A Learning Neighbourhood is an area that has an ongoing commitment to learning, providing inclusive and diverse learning opportunities for whole communities through partnership and collaboration. The communities involved here are Togher, Ballyphehane, Knocknaheeny and Mayfield.

Showcase

The learning and education organisations of Togher and Ballyphehane will showcase their activities in our Hall on Wednesday, 20th September, from 12.30pm. Delegates from the Conference will visit.
